Transit Directions in Manila

Commuters in the Philippines capital now have their own Google Maps based transit app to help them get around. Sakay.ph is a transit routing map for commuters using jeepneys, buses and trains in Manila.

The map allows anyone to enter a starting point and destination and view step-by-step instructions on how to complete the journey. For ease of use you can also left-click on the map to set your starting point and destination.

When you click on the 'get route' button a suggested route is displayed on the map and you are presented with a number of options for completing the journey, with the likely journey time for each option. If you select one of the suggested routes step-by-step instructions are displayed in the map side panel explaining how you should complete your journey.

Interesting the map is built using the Leaflet map library with Google Maps tiles. It seems a strange choice to use the Google Maps tiles in Leaflet when OpenStreetMap has such good coverage in Manila.
